Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Pets. I can sometimes install sims3pack files that are NOT from the store, but absolutely nothing from the store will install. (It always says I need to 'update my game', and yet according to the launcher, my game is up to date.). Please make sure your game has the Latest Software. So I recently started to get into sims 3 again after a year or so of not playing it. I re-installed the base game and the expansion and stuff packs I had (Generations, Design and High-tech stuff, fast lane stuff and world adventures) and they installed perfectly fine. Then my launcher prompted me to.
The sims 3 installation failed latest software updates is developing at a frantic pace. New versions of the software should be released several times a quarter and even several times a month.

For Mac user experiencing disc authentication issues, you can alternatively use your disc serial code (of the latest-released product) to redeem a digital download version of the game from the EA Store at no cost to you. This is made possible through the Origin download manager client. After you have registered the game on the Sims3.com website, the product will automatically be redeemed in Origin. The latest version of the Origin client for Mac OS X can be downloaded from the following link:
Mac
http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download
Once the Origin download manager is installed and running, log into it using your Sims3.com login credentials. From the My Games tab you should find your digital game ready to download and install.
Before installing the digital download game, you will need to uninstall the disc version of that game first. By running the latest-released expansion pack or stuff pack as an Origin digital download, no DVD disc will be required to launch into the game.

HOW I FIXED THE PROBLEM ON MAC
When in finder pressed the 'alt' button when searching through the 'GO' bar on the top menue. This will reveal the Library. In the library locate the πreferences file folder. FInd all the files that have 'com.transgaming.thesimes3...plist' and 'com.transgaming.thesims3....savedState 4' I place them in a separate file on my desk top. (Wasn't sure if I needed them)
LEAVE The Sims 3 Preferences.
I haven't had any disc failure problems since
I think I might have accidentally discovered the solution when I was playing once. What I did is as soon as you press play in the launcher and the game starts, put it in window mode (Command + Return) and keep it in window mode until you select your family. It might have only worked on my computer, but I found 99% of the time this solution worked.
I'm on mac and have this problem too. I just got the pets expansion. I started getting the problem a few weeks before I got the expansion and now after I spent like a 2 weeks on a Legacy Challenge game, I got this saving error 12 popup when I tried to save even though it worked a couple hours before. So I quit to main menu to start new world and just put my household into a new lot but they weren't there!!!! And now I have to start all over again and I managed to get triplets before so the disk failure is really ******* me off. Should I start all over again and try to fix the things I stuffed up on or recreate my sims and house as best I can? I'm more leaning to starting over again because then there would be two of the same guy in the town. But what if I can't find him again?
Anyway, hope you manage to fix the problem. Wanna friend me?

The main thing is to uninstall (completely) the game from your computer, and you can totally back up your Saved files and custom content and mods.. worked for me. Then you download the digital version through EA's origin app and use the Superpatch REGION 7 for Macs, apply it to the base game and it will work.
I gave a full, detailed account of my steps, but full credit to finding out my issue and the solution goes to Caspinwall:
Disc Authorization Failure solution!
I'm having the 'disc authorisation failure' problem with the sims 3 pets (and haven't had it before with the other Expansions) and I've already tried fixing by doing what the BlueBellFlora forum suggests, I moved the sims 3 folder to my desktop but now the game doesn't get past the blue screen after the launcher! Any ideas on what to do to solve this issue? I'd ideally prefer not to go via origins because it means uninstalling everything... any other suggestions to be able to play?
Thanks!!!

The only fix if you're running El Capitan or Sierra is to use Origin. It doesn't involve uninstalling everything, just your most recent EP by release date then downloading and installing it through Origin.
